Drum majors demoted

Pringle formally crowned

The elegance of African royalty, dance and music captured the eyes, ears and hearts of the local community in celebration of Barbara Pringle's formal crowning at the Alabama State University Acadome on Oct. 9. Pringle along with her court, First Attendant Brittany Woodard and Second Attendant Deshawn Sutton led 42 university queens under the theme "Golden Legacy: Rekindling the Fire for Our Generation.

ASU students are not the only students affected by election date change

The controversy surrounding the upcoming municipal elections has become more and more interesting as it continues to unfold. The saga began with federal officials allowing the city of Montgomery to move the date of the elections from Oct. 2 to Aug. 28 to allow military personnel the time to comply with a 42-day time period required by law to return mail-in ballots if a run-off were needed.

White House strategist Rove resigns

WASHINGTON _ With his boss standing by his side, an emotional Karl Rove said Monday that he's stepping down as President Bush's senior political strategist, while promising Bush that he'll remain "a fierce and committed advocate on the outside." The departure _ effective at the end of the month _ leaves Bush facing the loss of his most trusted political adviser as he heads into the final year and a half of his presidency.

Don Imus settles with CBS, then sued by Rutgers player

NEW YORK _ Four months after being fired, Don Imus scored an eight-figure payday and plotted his comeback _ even as he was sued by one of the athletes he called "nappy-headed ho's." The shock jock, who is reportedly in talks with New York radio station WABC-AM for a morning show, settled his contract dispute Tuesday with CBS.

Bush family announces engagement of daughter Jenna

WASHINGTON _ Jenna Bush _ party girl, teacher, global activist and first daughter and now, fiancee. First lady Laura Bush announced Thursday that her 25-year-old daughter is engaged to longtime boyfriend Henry Hager, an MBA student who worked on the president's re-election campaign and was an aide to political guru Karl Rove.
