Late Thanatology Professor Dana Cable Remembered for Life's Work Hood Today Beloved thanatology professor Dr. Dana Cable, 66, passed away after complications from surgery on Fri., July 30 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He had been diagnosed with colon cancer in early July of this year. The director of the thanatology and human science graduate programs at Hood, Cable was an inspiring and comforting force to thousands of students throughout nearly 40 years of teaching.

Opening Convocation to Formally Introduce 2010-2011 School Year Hood Today Hood's annual Opening Convocation, which ceremoniously introduces the new school year, will take place Monday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. in the Hodson Outdoor Theater, and will be followed by an all-campus picnic. The ceremony will celebrate the 2010 - 2011 year by recognizing the incoming freshmen and honoring the graduating seniors.

Renovations and Updates Transform Hood Hood Today The fall of 2010 marks new beginnings for Hood as the institution initiates a number of improvements around campus. As the next academic year commences, the college is eager to acclimate students to the changes that will help facilitate campus life. The previously inaccessible Coblentz basement has been refurbished with a gaming room, seminar room, lounge area, and outdoor patios - all with new furniture.

Unlike a franchised chain restaurant, Callahan's is family-owned and has been serving high-quality seafood in Frederick for over 15 years. $2 Million Awarded to Hood by Lt. Gov. Brown Hood Today Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown came to Hood College Thursday, April 15 to give the college $2 million to help fund an overhaul of the heating system, which currently is supported by an aging boiler. Hosting a Governor for the first time since 2000, Hood was able to hold a successful ceremony and event.

Accalimed Author Speaks on Life's Difficulties Hood Today Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the highly acclaimed novel "Eat, Pray, Love" and one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people life visited Hood College on April 14th as part of the annual Frederick Reads Program. Gilbert's book which chronicles her year long trips to Italy, Indonesia, and India, after her divorce, was on the New York Times Best Seller list for 158 weeks.

Dr. Katherine Conway-Turner accepted the position and will begin to fulfill her new responsibilities starting in mid-July. Student Delegates Participate in Model United Nations Hood Today "Honorable Chair, fellow delegates, the Republic of Bulgaria is present and voting." This was the phrase used over and over again by Model United Nations (MUN) club members at the 2010 National Model United Nations conference in New York. 12 students and one advisor embarked on a journey filled with fancy suits, resolution paper writing and exciting dialogue regarding predominate international issues.

Disneynature Delivers With Earth Day Film Hood Today On Earth Day 2009, the studio Disneynature, brought audiences, "Earth," a nature film and documentary detailing the stories of three animal families and the journey across the planet we call home. On Earth Day 2010, the studio took audiences to "Oceans," a film of the same genre as its predecessor.

HCT Performs First Student Written Play Hood Today "Mermaid Avenue" was an original work written by the Hood College Theater Ensemble. It's a piece that is based off the first part of the music album of the same name by Woody Guthry, Billy Bragg and Wilco. Each member of the eight-person cast created the characters of the show after listening to the songs on the first part of the two-part album.

Graduate Student Presents Ceramic Art Exhibit Hood Today Artist Tegan Rice will present her exhibition of ceramic works inspired by vessels from around the world which have poured out our favorite drinks since pre-history. The exhibit, "Containing History" will display the ceramic work of Ms. Rice in the Tatem Arts Center from July 9 to July 19 from 9a.

KFC's New Double Down? Deal Me In! Hood Today When I heard that KFC had made a sandwich that eliminated the only element not loaded with calories, most people were horrified. My reaction: I'll take two! While this sandwich has 32 grams of fat, which is over half of your recommended values per day, it also makes a bold statement; I'm a man, and I'm going to eat like one! The TV ads for the sandwich clearly target males ages 18-35.
